PioneerCare Artist Residency is now accepting applications for 2021 Program. This 3-month PioneerCare Artist Residency program is open to visual artist applicants who wish to be immersed in the lives of the elder community residing in the PioneerCare facilities.
The main objective for the PioneerCare Resident Artist is to involve, engage and enrich the lives of the PioneerCare community members through meaningful arts projects, activities and experiences, culminating in an exhibition at the Kaddatz Galleries which engages the elder artists with the greater community of Fergus Falls.
PioneerCare is a non-profit provider of short term therapy, skilled nursing care, memory care and community-based services primarily for older adults.
The PioneerCare Resident Artist will provide access to meaningful visual arts experiences to the residents within the PioneerCare facilities. Residents of PioneerCare may have varying levels of cognitive and or physical impairment. Resident Artists will be asked to provide modification plans in advance to demonstrate how they will be sensitive to individual residents’ needs and abilities. The PioneerCare residents’ involvement in this program’s arts projects are on a voluntary basis.
Compensation & Amenities
Resident Artists will be paid $70/hour for 8 hours of preparation, art instruction and interaction with PioneerCare residents per week during the 3-month residency, a budget of up to $300 per week for project supplies will be allotted and purchased by the Kaddatz Galleries staff on behalf of the resident artist upon project and budget approval.
The resident artist will also be provided a fully furnished, private one-bedroom apartment equipped with a full kitchen and a bathroom with a walk-in shower as well as lunch and dinner each day at the Pioneer Pointe. There are two washers and dryers on each floor of the Pioneer Pointe facility, all of which are free and available for resident use. A separate handicap accessible studio space located in the Kaddatz Galleries building will also be made available to the artist during their residency, upon request.
Applicant is responsible for travel expenses.
The resident artist’s apartment is handicap accessible and has elevator access and a handicap accessible private restroom, parking and laundry facility on each floor. Please indicate any accessibility needs or requests in your application or contact us with any questions or concerns.

Artists will be asked to provide:
• Personal Information
• Artist Resume & Artist Statement
• Work Samples (at least 5 images and no more than 10 images)
• Statement of Intent: Why do you want to be a Resident Artist at PioneerCare?
• Project Proposal (please also provide proposed project modifications for both cognitive and physical impairments)
• Project Budget
• References: please provide 3 professional references who are familiar with you and your work.
Applying artists will be required to pass a background check upon being chosen and before the beginning of the artist residency and are required to abide by hipaa guidelines and State and Federal laws for the duration of their residency, failure to do so will call for immediate termination of residency.
Resident artists are selected by a committee comprised of Fergus Falls community members, Kaddatz Galleries, PioneerCare and Springboard for the Arts staff.

There are two 3-month time slots open to applicants:
(1) January 4 – March 31, 2021
(2) April 6 – June 30, 2021
Applicants are given a 1st and 2nd choice of time slots within the application process, there is also an option to choose only one time slot if only one time will work with the artist’s schedule.
