untethered is a biannual Toronto-based literary journal publishing poetry, prose, visual art, and work that blurs those lines, from emerging and established writers and artists. untethered was co-created in 2014 by three graduates of York University’s creative writing program. Since then, untethered has taken the Toronto literary scene by surprise, producing a high-quality print journal of polished, always entertaining work and throwing some of the best launch events in the literary community. untethered is a completely independent and unfunded journal.
• Please submit previously unpublished work through email, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
• Please specify the genre(s) of the piece(s) you are submitting.
• If submitting prose, please include word count(s).
• If you are submitting more than one piece, please upload as individual files. (i.e. one file per piece submitted. Word documents are preferred! We do not accept submissions in the body of an email. Please attach individual files.)
They don’t publish the same writer in consecutive issues.
They will consider a maximum of four poems per submission.
For fiction and non-fiction, they will accept a maximum of 5000 words total in each genre. Please specify word count(s) in your cover letter.
(e.g. Five 1000 word non-fiction pieces, or anything that adds up to 5000 words, OR one 5000 word piece.)
However, keep in mind that if it is on the longer side, it must earn its length—the piece should be as long as it needs to be.
They feature one artist per issue, so please send a sample of the portfolio or collection of work you’d like us to consider (five to ten pieces).
They will accept any combination of the above for consideration.
Deadline: July 12.
